MEDIA TRAINING
I am currently a media coach for The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) where I am coaching 5 mid-level media professionals from Jordan's news organizations as part of WAN-IFRA's Women in News programme. Women in News works with newspapers and their high potential female employees to overcome the gender gap in management and senior editorial positions.
I conduct media training workshops for both youth and adults. The trainings
are interactive, and offer advanced training and materials that are up-to
date with the journalism industry. I also invite prominent experts in the field
as guest speakers to be part of the program. Some of the topics I've covered
in the media workshops include: the basics of journalism, re-searching and
interviewing skills, working in the field, writing the story and how to present
your information. I also conduct workshops in storytelling & media relations.
The media workshops are offered in either English or Arabic.
The latest trainings that I have conducted were in collaboration with Leaders
of Tomorrow, a non-profit youth organization in Jordan that has already
trained dozens of youths in debating skills, leadership skills and social media.
The first two media trainings with Leaders of Tomorrow were in Arabic and
took place in December 2015 and January 2016.
Here are some photos from the workshop.
I have also given media trainings at the Jordan Media Institute, International
Center for Journalists, Munathara and Yarmouk University. If you are searching
for a media trainer, you can send me an email to inquire more about the type
of sessions and trainings I offer.
TEACHING
For two years, I was an instructor at Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan where I taught hundreds of students reporting, re-searching, interviewing skills and news writing and feature writing. I also developed my own curriculum for both of the classes and introduced new media skills like creating infographs, using translation apps and using social media. I continue to be in touch with some of my students who are now journalists and media presenters.
SELF-PACED ONLINE COURSE
You can take a look at a self-paced media relations course I developed for the Online Activism Institute here.
- Learn how media works, and how to use the media to communicate your message to your constituencies.
- Learn the newest media techniques including how to present yourself & your message online.
- Learn how to organize media briefings and materials to keep the media abreast with your plans, events & accomplishments.
By using the Internet to bridge gaps in physical distance, the Institute offered women who champion democratic values unique opportunities to learn from activism experts around the world, equipping them with tools and inspiration to achieve change in their communities. In 2009, Politics Online recognized the Online Activism Institute as one of the year's "Top 10 Who Are Changing the World of Internet and Politics".
