A list of inspirational and prominent journalists. Some of the journalists that I have admired over the years for their research and investigations, interviewing skills and outstanding writing.
Bob Woodward is an associate editor of The Washington Post, where he has worked since 1971. He has shared in two Pulitzer Prizes, first in 1973 for the coverage of the Watergate scandal with Carl Bernstein, and second in 2003 as the lead reporter for coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. N. R. Kleinfield, a former longtime member of The Times’s Metro staff, is a freelance writer and author of eight books. He was one of the writers on the “How Race Is Lived in America” series that won a Pulitzer Prize and Polk Award. He was the lead writer on the diabetes series that was a Pulitzer finalist. Nadia Bseiso is a Jordanian documentary photographer based in Amman. She completed a degree in photography from Florence, Italy in 2011, returning for a residency in Fondazione Fotografia in Modena, in 2015. She concentrates on long term projects, based on personal research in geopolitics, history, anthropology and environmental degradation. Yassin Musharbash is deputy editor in the investigative department of German newsweekly Die Zeit. He is the son of a Jordanian father and a German mother. In his work, he has focused on issues of Islamophobia. In 2011 his novel Radikal was published, in which he discusses the violent potential of Islamophobic movements in Europe. Rukmini Callimachi is a correspondent for The New York Times, focusing on al-Qaeda and ISIS. Previously, spent seven years relentlessly providing readers around the world with gripping accounts of violence in West Africa as Correspondent & Bureau Chief for The AP. Tara Todras-Whitehill is a documentary photographer who has been living in the Middle East for over 7 years. She was a staff photographer for the Associated Press and is now currently a freelance photographer represented by Polaris Images. She has worked for clients such as Vanity Fair, NY Times Travel, Glamour, the Abu Dhabi government, and the ICRC, among others. Alessio Mamo is a Sicilian freelance photographer based in Catania. A graduate in Chemistry, Alessio preferred to travel rather than working in a laboratory lab. In 2007, he graduated in photography from the European Institute of Design in Rome. In 2008, he began his career in photojournalism focusing on contemporary social, political and economic issues. Kelly McEvers is an American journalist and a current co-host of NPR’s All Things Considered. Prior to her current position, McEvers was a foreign correspondent for NPR, in which role she covered momentous international events including the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, Middle East uprisings associated with the Arab Spring, and the Syrian civil war. Nir wrote an incredible investigation on labor and health violations in nail salons in New York and beyond. The research, writing and reporting for this story was incredible and her story is already making an impact in law reforms, stricter inspections and an investigation announced by the mayor of New York after her story was published.

Great journalist and writer who has been the Paris bureau chief for The New York Times since 2008. Erlanger joined the Times in September 1987. 2002 – Shared Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting with other staffers of The New York Times for work on Al Qaeda.
The National’s correspondent in the Middle East, Phil Sands is a good friend and colleague who does impeccable work in the field and research for his stories.
Marie Catherine Colvin was an award-winning American journalist who worked for the The Sunday Times from 1985 until her death. She died while covering the siege of Homs in Syria.

Favorite book: War is a Force that Gives us Meaning
Anna Politkovskaya was a Russian investigative journalist who was mostly known for her fearless dispatches from Chechnya, Russia. Her works and books covered range of topics such as human rights abuses, brutality in the army, the failure of judicial system, problems in the Caucasus and struggling democracy in Russia. Anna was murdered on October 7, 2006 as she was entering her house. Prior to her murder, she admitted facing intimidation and harassment from Russian authorities, including the authorities in Chechnya, due to her outspoken criticism of government policy and action in the region.
Is journalism worth dying for? Final Dispatches from Anna Politkovskaya includes her articles written for Novaya Gazeta about Chechen conflict, specifically about the treatment of the Chechen refugees in Russia, numerous abductions in the region and about people whose lives were directly affected by this war.
